From the Mud Comes the Lotus
It's the old question: how much is enough? In wide-angle lenses, that's not easily answered. Most ULW "fisheye" lenses create images that are not much more than curiosities. Not the Rokinon 12mm. I don't understand the optics, but this lens makes sharp and easily-corrected images in situations where you'd ordinarily doing a 2-shot panorama. It is ideal for closed spaces--churches, real estate, mines. I don't use it often, but it's a worthy addition to the camera bag. Best of all, it's well-made and surprisingly inexpensive.
