The most helpful chapter of this book was definitely Ch. 5 "Creating an Outline." Until now, I have spent my entire academic career writing essays without outlines and, consequently, putting myself through severe pain. This book helped me realize that writing is not somekind of voodoo or magic that only certain people are good at; It taught me that writing nonfiction is simply the translation of knowledge and fact into words, and the arrangement of those words into clear, concise sentences. I am extremely pleased with my purchase of "The Art of Nonfiction."
This book has greatly improved my ability to think about nonfiction writing. Rand thoroughly explains the method she has devised based entirely on the nature of man's mind. In so doing, she demystifies the art and makes the process a whole lot less painful! I strongly recommend it.
