I'm a programmer and use it in a vertical configuration at multiple sites. The viewing angle is not as broad in the vertical orientation, but this mostly affects the contrast with the dark colors. You may be better suited tilting the monitor slightly away from you toward the bottom. The surface finish is matte with very little glare and hides imperfections well. I often forget mine have streaks or scratches until they turn off. The sharpness is the primary feature of this monitor, and the second feature is they were popular with businesses, who have upgraded out of them, making them very inexpensive. I've only bought used ones and have had no problems, and the built-in hub is a nice bonus. I've used the E221i and the E221 and can tell no difference between them.

Definitely well designed. You won't get the same consistent viewing angle you get on modern LED backlit monitors but it's much easier on the eyes. I bought two, and I love them.
