This Sony VPL-HW55ES projector is brighter than most projectors, handles ambient light well, has multiple 2D and 3D picture modes, a full color management system, improved lamp life, a large, backlit remote control with easy to navigate menus, a wireless HDMI option, 3D glasses that can convert 2D to 3D, and Reality Creation, a dynamic detail enhancement that will crisp up any image. Sony’s Reality Creation checks each aspect of the image frame by frame and enhances it so you can see it like it was meant to be seen. Reality Creation can tell what is being shown: if it’s a face, it will process differently than it would if the image was scenery. The adjustable screen size ranges from 40 to 300 inches. The projector’s fan noise is low, so it will not interfere with your cinema watching experience. There are 9 picture modes, 11 gamma modes, Motionflow technology which give you a sharp, smooth motion, and precision, and an automatic contrast adjustment that brings viewers the best picture possible. Sony’s 3D technology on this projector is top notch, as it is brighter than other projectors with 3D capability. The included two pair of infra-red (IR) 3D glasses are just right for 3D viewing, but if you prefer radio frequency (RF) glasses, you can also use those. You will just need to add an external emitter to your projectors accessories. Another piece for your accessories is the wireless HDMI option, and it is perfect for those who mount their projector on the ceiling or on a high shelf and do not want HDMI cables littering up their home theater. If you do not want to run the wires through a wall, staple them to a wall, or dangle them from the ceiling, get the Sony IFU-WH1 wireless HDMI rig. This allows you to hook all of your home cinema gear to one area and hide the mess away from plain sight. The lens of the Sony (VPL-HW55ES) projector is center mounted and recessed. It has two small adjustable feet at the front bottom, and an IR sensor for the remote. It is a large projector and weighs 21 pounds, but its nicely rounded exterior and shiny surface make it a great addition in your projection room. The contrast ratio of the Sony VPLHW55ES is 16:9; that is full HD at 1080p. The projector includes two HDMI input ports as well as an HD15 connector for your computer or a second component video input. It has three color coded RC jacks, and an Ethernet like connector for the option RF emitter for the newer 3D glasses. You can also hardwire the remote if needed using the small connector for the remote control. Please note that the remote is not a universal remote and will not control the audio, but you can control any aspect of the image, including brightness and other picture content. Sony's cutting corners but not the price
For a used projector, the value is much better than new. It throws a great picture but is no match for JVC. Plus the zoom and lateral adjustment knobs are cheaply made, easy to break or getting off rails.
