Great for Use on an Airplane

I purchased these to use on a 12 hour trans-Atlantic flight. The noise cancelling is effective enough that it made listening to music and an audio book at low volumes comfortable. It also made sleeping easier. Audio quality is altered when the noise cancelling is turned on, but is still acceptable for my purposes. For normal room noise levels, noise cancelling doesn't even have to be activated. I have two different-sized ear canals due to some surgery I had years ago, so being able to customize the ear plugs made these much more comfortable. The only real negative I found was that the battery case is heavy enough and bulky enough to get in the way from time to time. This is the reason they don't get used more often. If you're taking a trip or work in a noisy environment, these can be a god-send.

    Good earphone for the money.

Works good on most of the noise. Good sound and fairly satisfying on the product. Don't expect Bose like sound and noise cancelling but very good noise cancelling. Little clip in the back of control module is good addition and it has its own volume control that's very handy.

  • Best Bang for the Buck

I have tried a few different ear bud sets, even an expensive set of Bose, you know, the type with the "Spock" ear fitting pieces (I hated those!). I also have a problem with ear buds fitting well in my left ear, apparently my ear canal is not conventional size and/or shape. As a result, I have a hard time with many ear buds sealing and/or staying put in my ear. These seem to fit and stay in better than most of the others I tried, not sure why but they do. I don't want over the ear headphones because my ears get too hot. After all the experiences I had with other ear buds, I never liked any of them as much as my Audio-Technicas. The A-Ts are better than everything else I tried. I had an earlier model of this set, and used them often over a period of several years. Eventually a wire became frayed and subsequently one side quit working. This had nothing to do with quality and everything to do with long term use. The fray happened too close to the noise cancelling controller to a point that I could not repair them properly. It is why I bought the Audio-Technica ATH-ANC33iS. When my old ones stopped working, I could not remember when and where I got them, I didn't even know what brand they were. All I had to go on was the A-T pyramid logo and was unable to associate to a brand. With only the logo, I was determined to find them. I started looking at all ear buds on ebaY until I found the logo and was able to identify the brand as Audio-Technica. I was elated when I identified them. Now it was just a matter of finding what I wanted at a price that was reasonable. I am able to wear these under my motorcycle full helmet (putting them in my ears first and slipping my helmet over them. I wear them mostly when I am mowing the lawn, they work beautifully when using the noise cancelling mode. The old model set seemed to be affected by wind buffeting (driving with the window down) where the newer set seems much less affected by the wind. This newer set has a built-in mic where my older model ear buds did not, having the mic is nice when I get a phone call. I definitely would recommend these, you will not be disappointed.

  • Good for what it says it does

I bought these for active noise cancellation, not the music. It works noticeably well inside loud environments like stores, outdoors while biking or walking when ANC is on. The audio quality is good. It has a good frequency response with highs and lows have a bit of a kick. The wiring feels flimsy and I feel like i'm going to break it because the rubber cabling sticks to clothing or gets easily snagged. Not good if you're mobile or agile. Good for places where you're sitting still. Cabling is rigid and cumbersome at times and finding a place to clip the ANC Switch can be a bit of a chore if you're active. Overall these do what they say they'll do within reason. I use twistable foam earplugs that have an Noise Reduction Ration (NRR) of 34db for when I want silence. These headphones reduce ambient noise (wind, fans, whispers) but not dynamic noise like motors, tv's, or noise that changes frequencies quickly.

  • Reasonable sound cancellation

Bought these headphones mainly for noise cancellation. For the price, they do a great job but not the best. I used them on several long-distance driving trips as well as international flights. I would say they cut the noise by 50-75% depending on the situation. They are effective in cutting low-frequency humming noise, such as engine or wind sound. They don't totally eliminate the noise, but they suppress it substantially, kind of like when you get underwater and sounds become muffled. The memory-foam tips are the best. I have some issues with wiring: I wish wires were detachable; length need to be increased, especially from the unit to the sound source; wires need to be a bit thicker. Battery consumption is great. One AAA battery stayed with me for over 36 hours of usage. Small size and light weight is a great advantage over the bulky types. Well, for a price that is less than 20% of top brands, it is worth it!

  • Decent value for the price

I'll start off by saying that I own a pair of Bose Quiet Comfort over-the-ear headphones. As far as I'm concerned, the Bose are the gold standard for noice-cancelling headphones. My only complaint with my Bose is that they're awkward (and large) to carry when flying. I like traveling light. The Bose simply don't allow for stealth flying. As a result, I did a little research to find the Audio Technica earphones. They're reasonably inexpensive, small, light, and well made. I would not, however, say that their noise canceling abilities come anywhere near that of the Bose However, I didn't drop several hundred dollars to get them.

  • Active noise cancellation is surprisingly effective...

These are my first pair of active noise cancellation earbuds so I can't compare them to anything else. The only other type of earbuds I've used that are on the higher end are klipsch image s4. With the active noise cancellation, the additional sound you get is surprising. Right now, I'm near the A/C unit and the difference when I have the noise cancellation on/off is like day and night.

  • Great buy!

I love these in ear headphones. They give me exactly what I need. I don't really feel that I have them on. They are that comfortable. I don't know why people who write the negative reviews about these headphones and say that don't cancel noise. Yes, they absolutely do. These headphones do exactly what they are designed to do. The complainers think when they go into a loud football stadium that they are supposed to cancel that kind of noise....Haters just don't understand that you can't get something like that for this price. Lets be practical here.

  • Signifcantly reduce engine/wind noise

I bought these to cut down the noise while riding my motorcycle (KLR-650). The deciding factors for choosing these ear buds was the price and the fact that they use active noise reduction technology. I've tried them out and I'm very impressed with how well they work! They significantly reduce the engine/wind noise! When I have the unit turned on I have to change gears based on the feel of the bike and the tach. The unit is easy to use with gloves on (on/off switch and volume). The only drawback I've experienced is that my ears get a little sore after a while because my helmet liner puts a bit of pressure on the ear buds (not the fault of the ear buds). Money well spent.
