Well the seller was fine, but the clutch slave cylinder is a replacement, the first as the original started leading at the seal at the stem and is not fixable as far as I can tell. So a leaking rubber part costs over $100 to fix. So I m going to see if this new one lasts longer. It s working great now.
Now about the bike (V-Strom 650, 2006), the slave cylinder is very close to the chain pinion gear so I suspect there was some splash on it. The rubber boot should be protecting it the inner stem seal, but clearly did not, or it just failed on its own, not sure. In the new install I added a piece of clear silicone tube over the rubber boot and over the stem to where it connects to the clutch lever, plus I packed silicone grease in the tube it to try to keep any contamination away. If it fails again, then it is a problem with materials or design and on Magura, not my bike.
I love the low clutch pull this provides vs. the old cable and would be greatly disappointed if I have to be replacing these things every two years (which is how long the original lasted more-or-less). Thus concept is sound, execution is still to be determined.
