Worked great on my 1978 Kawasaki 1000 LTD.
It works and installation is relatively easy. The one glitch during installation was that that the electronic components were installed on the wrong side of the mounting plate at the factory, which made it impossible to set the timing correctly. I contacted technical support and since this must be a pretty uncommon occurence, it took awhile for them to come up with this as the problem. When the electronics are installed correctly at the factory, the observation hole at the top of the plate is slightly to the left of 12 o'clock and closer to left sensor. On the one I received, the hole was slghtly to the right of 12 o'clock and closer to the sensor on the right. Once the problem was identified, it took less than 5 minutes to correct. I just removed the 5 screws holding the components, turned the plate around and reinstalled the components. I was tthen able set the timing correctly, and the bike ran like a champ.

Check your application,pass if using on a J engine
So, the DS2-1 is shown to be usable for the KZ1100 s. However, the unit is limited to applications using ignition coils that have a resistance of at least 3 ohms, stock KZ1100 coils are factory rated at 2.8-1.8 ohms which means if installed without changing your STOCK coils the unit will fry. I would recommend using 2 gm hei 4 pin modules with the stock pickup coils and ignition coils( this will allow you to use higher draw coils if you wish) to replace the failed stock ignitor. I have not installed the unit but am saving it to use on a Z1 that I will restore next winter. The draw back to this unit is its limitation as to coil power, if you are looking to upgrade to a hotter spark than the old Z1, this is not your ticket. Quality is yet to be determined as it has not been installed as yet.
