So I take the shoes over with my son's 1987 Suzuki LT50 that can barely brake anymore, adjustment nut all the way in, no more tightening available, to the local Suzuki shop because I couldn't find anything on YouTube how to do it myself. We get the bike back and the adjustment nut is threaded in about 3/4" and the brakes were touchy. My son rode around the yard for about a half hour when he approached me saying his ATV was out of gas, but it was still running. I walked up to it and the brakes were locked up just about. The engine wouldn't move the machine when I flicked the throttle and I knew what happened right away. The brakes were originally set too tight. It was my fault for not going over the brakes before he rode. I loosened up the nut to almost the very end and I still had great stopping power. Now listen to this, the brake drum and axle, to the touch, was hot. The bearings to the axle are probably toast and the clutch probably took a major beating which upsets me, but I can say one thing about the brakes...They don't seem to be glazed over and function normal still to my surprise. Hopefully this isn't the end of these brand new brakes after we run the quad a few more times later on. I hope no harm was done to my bearings or clutch either, but we know it did. Anyway, the brakes still stop good with minimal lever pull is what I'm so impressed about after going through such torment.
