It answers the title's question as much by showing how to think about the matter as by seeking out best answers.Previously I did not know of a great book treating this question. Now I do. I shall be recommending it to many, as well as assigning it for student reading -not least because it so clearly commends the sole means through which the undeniable Christian 'bad' may find solution, This book doesn't whitewash the bad behaviour of many Christians, but it also offers some helpful insights, theological context, and practical wisdom for how Christians can respond to this important challenge., ... both answers honest questions about Christians and the Christian faith and serves as an encouragement to any believer who wants to follow Christ more faithfully., I know of no one I would rather have tackle the question asked in the title of this book than Mark Coppenger. With his rare mix of broad reading, deep thinking, and practical,'boots-on-the-ground' work in Christian ministry, Coppenger understands that the question is a loaded one and will never be addressed in a helpful way unless it is first unpacked, carefully considered, and understood. As a result, this book does not avoid real challenges that are legitimately leveled against biblical Christianity. Neither does it offer facile answers that satisfy no one who seriously wants to understand how the way of Jesus Christ can have proponents who sometime spectacularly fail to live up to their professed faith.Coppenger understands the Bible and the nature of real Christianity.Consequently he does not allow false judgments based on misrepresentation to stand. He also understands logical fallacies and effectively--and sometimes humorously--exposes them and contrasts them with legitimate critiques. The result is a book that both answers honest questions about Christians and the Christian faith and serves as an encouragement to any believer who wants to follow Christ more faithfully. So get a copy for anyone who has sincere hesitations about Christianity. Better yet, if you are a Christian get two copies and read it with an honest inquirer. You will help that person consider the gospel of Jesus while strengthening your own faith as you do., Christians are supposed to be new people, not just forgiven people; but they still sin, sometimes in scandalous ways. So how should Christians answer this objection, often raised in evangelistic settings?Dr. Mark Coppenger offers a strategy for doing so that is biblical, accessible, honest, and seasoned with wit and wisdom.
