With Itzhak Perlman (Violin) and Daniel Barenboim (Piano), the precedent of their appearance on these recordings should command immediate attention as devout interpreters of their instruments. Rather than concentrate on the better-known forms as the Concerto, Symphony, and Opera, they give an exposition of Mozart's interest in the Sonata--a very delicate, intimate sort of expression with minimal instrumentation with however, a good deal of sophistication and reproduction. From his earliest compositions--usually suited to a younger apprentice or as "consignment music" for Royalty and others of influential power, Mozart uses this intricate medium between his earliest works of the 1770's and as late as 1781, as an important piece of his musical repertoire. Their influences--primarily French. Austrian, and German, expose a more delicate side of Mozart's genius--although unjustly relegated to the "back" of his incredibly impressive catalog produced throughout his short, but incredibly productive life as a composer, director, and even as a participant in many of his performances throughout his career. The package is impressive, elegant, economical--and informative to all who desire and love to hear as much as possible from this most prolific of artists. The West Germans got it right once again in their respectful, compact reproduction of their usual perfectionism in every facet in the early days of the compact disc.
A good package price for the Mozart's full violin sonata collection played by fine
artists. Would not attempt to compare to other's, but no comparison even needed.
