  • Large scoop is perfect for for metal detecting gold nuggets!

I have previously used these large 64oz scoops in food service and was impressed by the reinforcing gussets built between the handle and the backside of the scoop. So when I wanted an extra large scoop for metal detecting gold nuggets I immediately wanted to try this scoop out. So I bought a couple of these. I find this large scoop especially useful for metal detecting gold nuggets because I typically have to sort through up to a half gallon or so of loose soil consisting of sand, gravel and rock in which my tiny gold nuggets reside. I can spread the soil out over a large area inside the flat bottom of the scoop and wave it over my detector so as to confirm that the gold nugget is somewhere in the scoop. I then divide half of the soil contents of the scoop into another identical scoop to see which scoop got the gold nugget, or in some cases there are two or more nuggets and both scoops have one or more nuggets. Because of this scoops heavy duty gussets I can forcefully scoop up and then hold several pounds of heavy soil in the scoop with no worries about breaking the handle off. As long as I have broken up and loosened the soil first I have no troubles scooping it up. With that said I would not want to try digging into virgin ground with this scoop. For that I'll use a pick and shovel.
