This sewing awl is an entry level device, good for occasional use and learning to stitch with. If your expectations aren't too high, you'll be satisfied with the awl's performance. If you already have some experience using this kind of tool or if you plan on doing a lot of stitching, you may prefer to invest in something a bit higher quality and more durable.

I bought this because I have some folding camp chairs...I have had many of these chair because they don't hold up..but I got these at a donation store for $10 for two (they apparently came with a Mercury Mountaineer) after using them for 6 or 7 years the seats ripped...I could not find replacement seats nor find any one to make me some so I bought this awl and some canvas and repair the chairs myself...total cost was about $18 (for canvas and awl) if I can learn to use this then I have saved a lot of money

Looks like a product I have used in the past but it is not. Inferior metal caused the the collar to cross thread on the first use so pliers had to be used to replace the needle, The thread provided was not suitable for leather work and was replaced. Even so the new thread could not work through the stitcher. Looks like a good product but it is not. It is a cheap inferior knock off of the old 'Speedy Stitcher' from years ago.

Much more cheaply made than my original speedy stitcher. The thread tension pin fell out immediately The overall construction and materials are of a lesser quality than the original The price reflects this. You get what you pay for. It will work.
