  • Rugged, economical, easy to wire receptacle

My generators have one of these sockets along with the NEMA 5-20 duplex outlets, so over time, a few specialized pieces of 240 volt equipment have ended up with this type of plug on them specifically to run off the generator in the field. I got tired of hunting down adapters every time I needed to use the small welder in the shop as opposed to remote job sites. So it was a no-brainer to just install a few compatible outlets. As a bonus, you can then use a generator cord as an extension for these 240 volt 30 amp devices in the shop and out to the yard, rather than actually rig up a generator just because the work is 10 feet too far away from the building. The rear wiring holes are easy to work with stiff wire in a fairly small box. From a safety standpoint there are no exposed live screws or other terminals, and the wires stick in straight without any need to bend or form around screws. This greatly speeds up first time installation, and also makes it easy to quickly remove an outlet and re-use it later, such as during remodeling of the shop or garage where outlets and walls may be moved and rewired. Another advantage is it fits in a standard single gang box, which gives an electrician many more flexible installation possibilities, since no special box is required. It is a bit deeper than a regular NEMA 5-15 or 5-20 industrial outlet, so you do need to watch your wire bend clearance (10 gauge is required for 30 amp circuits) and try to design the layout so no other wires enter or pass through the box. But I have installed 3 so far in an ordinary single gang of standard depth without any real problems. Most of the standard "in-use" weatherproof covers that meet code for outdoor installations also fit these fixtures. Some of the metal ones may need a little machining, but most have scored knock-out pieces to let them fit. They have proven to be pretty tough. A small MIG welder (about 50 pounds) fell off a table while being moved and the whole thing briefly swung from its cord which was plugged into one of these fixtures. It broke the screw plate in the box the outlet was mounted in (which were still attached to the outlet as a foot of wire was yanked out of the conduit as well), but did not damage the outlet itself. A couple hours work to swap out the box with an older, tougher box, and put the same outlet back in the "new" box, and it's back up and working. So they are at least as solidly made as the ones we found locally at 4x the price. As my little setup expands, I'm probably going to buy a few more, to install at a few other locations where either welding or occasionally high current devices need to be plugged in rather than snake heavy cabling across high traffic areas.

  • Top quality at bargain prices

GE outlets are equivalent to any of the other “name” brands sold (at higher cost) today, and - as you would expect from NOS originally made in the USA - are markedly superior to most contemporary knockoffs from China. An excellent deal and recommended!

  • New old stock twist lock receptacles 👍😃👍

New old stock twist lock receptacles, you can’t beat the quality of these electrical parts, made in the good old USA back in the. 1980’s when quality hadn’t gone down the toilet. I used to install these on commercial jobs in the 80’s, many of these parts will last for fifty years of constant use without failure. The hardware today that comes out of China can be garbage, some of it is not even UL listed and doesn’t meet national electric code standards. These do, you have to buy commercial grade or industrial grade electrical parts to even come close to this quality with today’s hardware.

  • Great connector

Great quality connector at an awesome price. I used 10 AWG THHN wire for this connector, it has very nice cage type terminals that work great for stranded wire. Two thumbs up!!

  • Good Receptacle

The receptacle was of good quality and had the screw type attachment for the wires I prefer for a good secure fit. The price was good and I would recommend this product.
