Maverick surface thermometer, great idea for cooking over a fire pit..Hope the guage continues to be readable.
I purchased a maverick surface thermometer to keep track of the temp of my cooking surface that I have over a firepit. It works good. It the time that I've used the thermometer, it seems to indicate the fire to be hotter than it really is, but after getting used to it, I can tell what temperature is a good cooking temp. I noticed the metal case became tarnished after a while and that was ok, but the guage face also started to get hazy as well which makes it harder to see where the temp needle is pointing.
