Many reviewers will try to give you a guideline of which book to read first. It is an honest approach to thrills. But Dean Koontz captures your attention in his first to last book. Start where you may, he will trap you to keep reading. Knowing the chronilogical history will not make a difference. But let's talk about Icebound. It is a very believeable tale of suspense, heroism, cross cultural struggles, the twisted mind and it's historical arrival, Nature and the struggles of men, and finally people existing among one another and how we do it. Dean is very good in setting us up to be jerked sideways into the drama of common ordinary lives of people. Yet, here they take on nature, politics, reality and surprise awakenings of character and their decicion approach. For this is what makes a book worth the effort to read. Escapism into things that lets good prevail. This is a love affair of life, a struggle of reality and a twisted mind, and the hope of a mind to make ammends; even when it was not necessary. This is good reading. Dean does his job well. Man does have a lot to conquer. Man does need more then hisself to survive. Give this book a chance.Read full review
This book was not what I thought it would be. It kept me interested, definitely a quick read. There is a lot of suspense in this book and it only took me two days to read. I'm used to Koontz's thriller books and this was more like an adventure story. If I was expecting an adventure story I would've rated it higher. There is a murder mystery but it is a very small part in the book.
This, so far, is the one and only Koontz novel I've managed to complete. And is, by his own admission, nothing like his other works. I if you're looking for a Koontz novel sans the supernatural/cryptid antagonists this is just your good old survival tale.

I read this years ago and told my son about it, he has been wanting to read it so I got it for him. I own many books by Koontz and axiously await new ones. He grabs you on the first page and doesn't let go...this is a problem because I can't put them down once I start and nothing else gets done.
Book was as good as expected, I am very happy. The book is used but in perfect conditions, no ripped pages, no writing or damages anywhere to be found.
