I needed a way to turn off my ROKU Stick when my TV is turned off. My older Sony flat screen TV does not have a USB port. This requires the ROKU Stick to be plugged into an electrical outlet. Without the Smart Surge Protector my data kept streaming when the TV was turned off. Problem solved with this purchase.

The 3rd Generation strip still has the "Sensitivity Threshold Adjustment". The newer 4th Generation does not, but the company is thinking of putting the feature back in if there is sufficient demand for it. Without it, I had a hard time shutting off the Monitor, Printer & Speakers when the PC was in "Sleep Mode" plugged into the Master Control Outlet. When the PC was "Off" the other devices would turn off. So the "adjustment" was necessary for me. Now the bad part. This Smart Strip uses triple mode protection between the LINE and NEUTRAL, NEUTRAL and GROUND, LINE and GROUND. In the event of a surge, the energy (current) is diverted to NEUTRAL or GROUND or both depending on how the manufacture chose to implement it. This is called MODE 2 protection and it can do more harm than good because your computer, TV, Stereo, AV Receiver uses GROUND as a reference and wants to see it a 0 volts. But when a surge is diverted, GROUND can get to several hundred or thousand volts really fast. Most of the time when this happens a consumer might see a hard drive crash, a lost USB port (on a computer or TV) or HDMI ports that no longer work. For this reason, one should look for MODE 1 surge protection which only diverts energy (Current) from the LINE to NEUTRAL, alternatively, invest in a SERIES MODE power filter which does not use an MOV rather it stores the energy & releases it slowly over time at low voltage levels on the NEUTRAL. It doesn't have any parts to wear out and will not need annual replacement the way most "SURGE SUPPRESSORS" do. Plus since it does not use an MOV, it will not smoke, explode or start a fire - the failure mode for an MOV based surge suppressor. I rate this product 5 stars for it's GREEN capability (shutting off other devices when the computer is in sleep mode or off), and 1 star because it uses MOV's to divert energy and it diverts it to GROUND which in this case can cause more problems then help. Average is 3 stars (1+5)/2 = 6/2 = 3 If you don't have a SERIES MODE power filter than it's a 1 star because of the danger it poses to your electronics.Read full review

These strips are fantastic! They work great whether you are wanting to save money lost on vampire devices and wall warts that don't need to run all the time, or for automating you electronic devices. I use them for automating my multimedia devices and receiver with my TVs. The receiver amp is a big hog... you don't want to forget to turn that off, or wear out the laser in your DVD or CD player either by forgetting to turn it off... I also use them for computer applications, such as a retrofit arcade machine. The BITS allows me to turn all the lighting effects, controls, sound, and monitor off/on with the PC...recreating the original effect of these machines perfectly. Other methods are much more elaborate and require hacks into the equipment. Not with this... There is a simple adjustment to set the control port current level based on the device you are using. Easy and explained well in the included instructions. Lastly, it's just a great, rugged strip... with good protection for your devices.Read full review
Our TV resides in a AV cabinet. Earlier we had a 32" CRT TV placed in that piece of furniture. New flat screen technology makes it possible to fill the space in our cabinet with a more visible (larger) picture coupled with a Home Theater PC (HTPC) without ruining our decor by stacking a number of equipment pieces in a visible location. The old TV was heavy and had a large footprint. The new 46" LED TV has a smaller footprint because it leaves a lot of space behind it's screen. That space now is occupied by our HTPC and a streaming device for connection to various sorts of entertainment. Protecting that equipment from heat buildup inside the cabinet is a concern. We installed a quiet exhaust fan in the rear of the cabinet. The fan runs whenever the equipment is turned on. This intelligent power strip controls the fan and keeps the equipment cool while in use. It was an inexpensive solution to our need to protect our investment in Home Entertainment equipment equipment.Read full review
I would have given it 5 stars except it doesn't turn the TV power off which is on all the time. Works great for turning off all the additional pieces of equipment.

Works for me. I have the controller outlet hooked to my tv and computer speakers on the controlled outlet. Shut off the tv and it shuts off the speakers.

Set screw? All I want to do is save power. I dont want to assemble things, tweak things and so on. I want to plug stuff in and be done. This device is NOT that. Wish I would have known before buying!

I use these to power my custom arcades and nothing comes close to its performance. I can power up/down all electrics within with one push of a power button making it as professional as can be. Hope they are around forever! A+++ Jake
Was just what I was in need of. Great product!
