Just finished reading this classic tale of John Irving. The same author who wrote The Cider House Rules, and bases his novels in New Hampshire or Maine. The first few chapters draws you in as the reader learns about Jenny Fields RN, a feminist before her time and an oddball to most. She neither wanted male attention, nor a husband, but over time wanted a baby. So, after getting herself pregnant by rather unorthodox methods she gives birth to son: T.S.Garp. Over time, the story begins to transfer from Jenny's life to Garp's as he struggles to become a good writer, husband, and father. The ironic twist I find is that Garp is the exact opposite of his sexless mother. He was constantly finding sex partners, prostitutes, etc. aside from his wife. Also, over time Garp began to see what a rough road his Mother had and what an exceptional woman she was. I did enjoy the story, but I found it dragged in some places and the book was a bit lengthy at over 400 pages. Overall, I give it 3 stars***Read full review
