I loved the two preceding novels "The Cove" and "The Maze" which were wonderfully balanced with suspense and a little romance. That cannot be said for "The Target." Ramsey Hunt, a burned out judge, is renting a cabin in the hills of Nevada when he finds a little girl unconscious in the woods. He takes her in only to find that she has been abused and raped. When she wakes up, she cannot speak. They learn to care and trust each other when enter her mother, Molly, with a gun. She demands that he let her child go and threatens to kill him for kidnapping her. This is when the little girl, Emma, decides to speak. She defends Ramsey and soon they are all allies in trying to find out why Emma was kidnapped. This is the slowest part of the book. After informing the police and the FBI that Emma has been found, all three head to Molly's father's home for refuge. There we meet Mason, the mobster grandfather. Dillon Savich and Lacey Sherlock enter the mix by trying to track down the pedophile. Although the ending is a lot quicker than the beginning, this book is never ending. Ramsey is almost obsessed with Emma. The plot even points toward him marrying Molly just so that he could adopt Emma. It was insulting because even when they were making love, she knew that he married her for her daughter. It is touching to see the love that Emma inspires in everyone around her. However, I didn't like the underlining storyline. Sorry, Catherine, but this was a dud.Read full review
I bought this book because my sister had the CD of it that she played on the trip to return me home after a visit with my family. Sadly, the story was only half finished when they left the next morning. Since I prefer to actually read a book, I purchased this one. I enjoyed the story well enough to add Catherine Coulter to my list of must read authors.
I love Catherine Coulter books and the FBI Thrillers are great!
