Basically it comes down to wool content. This Carhartt model A111 contains 83% wool. This is the highest wool content of any expensive winter sock I know of. I have tried more popular name brand and more expensive winter socks, but most others are around 60% to %70 wool content. And my feet sweat just a little more in these other brands I think due to to much synthetic fabric content. And wet feet tend to be cold feet.
