This 1100 is the little brother to the Sony BDP-S3100 with the difference being the 1100 connects to the Internet via Ethernet while the 3100 is via wifi. Both offer great quality for the price. This 1100 is connected to a Samsung 61" LED DLP HDTV (along with a JBL Cinema SB100 Soundbar) and the quality of BDs, DVDs and TV is great, with colors being rich and full of detail. Movies watched on Amazon Instant Video are just as fabulous, with a connection speed of around 20Mbps. Setting up the 1100 for basic operation is a breeze, a true plug and play device, though I did first have to first activate the anynet+ feature on my Samsung. Connecting to the Internet and Amazon takes a few minutes, but once done you are set to go. There will most likely be a quick patch update to download when first connecting. Next step, is Sony registration, obtaining a code, and then activating the 1100 device with Amazon via computer. The small form size and sleek look is perfect. This unit will fit most anywhere, especially in limited areas, as it is only 11.4 inches wide, 7.8 inches wide and a scant 1.6" high. When setting up the unit there is a no Internet option, which can be changed to yes or no at any time. Selecting no will mean not loading SD live software prior to watching a flick. With the Internet active FB and Twitter can be used. Navigation is also fairly intuitive and while I am only using Amazon Instant Video services, several are available, such as Netflix, Hulu and Pandora, as well as YouTube. This is a great upgrade from a standard DVD player, which I just (finally) did. Slowly but surely I am upgrading all of my devices. This unit is recommended to anyone replacing a DVD (or older Blu Ray) player and does not mind the Ethernet connection. If you want wifi, then go the 3100 route. I have both and both perform very well.Read full review
It said in the spec sheet that it was a Zero Zone Payer. It is not. It is suppose to play DVDs from all over the world. I buy old westerns from Germany and Australia and Different countries. It will not play the DVDs from other countries. I want it for HDMI My DVD player that is a Zero Zone uses Video and Audio connections I have to go through a couple of menues to get it to play on big screen HDMI does away with that. John N

As a Blu-ray player it works fine and has a good picture and loads the disc quickly, it also works fine with USB drives. Where it fall down is on using apps to play content off of the internet...they take a long time to start and I have yet to get Pandora to even start on it.

The Sony BDP-S1100 is an excellent value for someone who simply wants a really good, versatile blue ray/ DVD player. It has the ability for internet access (wired), if you're so inclined, but is an easy-to-use player with excellent picture and sound quality! For me, it was a great investment from an excellent Ebay seller!!

Works great but can not connect to my wireless network because there is no wireless technology available. Only hard-wired Ethernet connectivity is available.
