Trip-Lite Super7 provides protection as well as being a power strip. I haven't had an event test the surge protection, I just trust the brand name and use Trip-Lite surge protectors where-ever UPS devices are not needed. UPS serves modems, routers and switches but are a waste of batteries for devices that can't work if the power is out like bridges that serve devices dependent on power such as garage door openers and outdoor lighting. Batteries are too small to run much for more time than it takes to send an email and shut down computers. Surge protectors serves the purpose of protecting microwave ovens, refrigerators and printers.
