Before this purchase, I made the mistake of buying a cheap bass recorder and hated it. The Aulos, by contrast has a wonderful tone and is very responsive throughout two and a half octaves. I was immediately able to play advanced alto recorder sonatas on this bass. The key action is light, unlike the cheap bass which cramped my hands. In fact, I'm barely aware that I'm pressing keys. Despite its' size, it has a comfortable feel. With the cheap bass, I was always aware of the stiff keys and slightly awkward finger position. This instrument is a delight and compares very favorably with a Dolmetsch I played some years ago.

Seams like a toy. I feel like I wasted my money. Money is not as easy to get as when I was a teen ager.
