SynopsisWith knowledge, spirit, good humor, and passion, THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. brings to life a remarkable man whose thoughts and actions speak to our most burning contemporary issues and still inspire the desires, hopes, and dreams of us all. Written in his own words, this history-making autobiography is Martin Luther King: the mild-mannered, inquisitive child and student who chafed under and eventually rebelled against segregation; the dedicated young minister who continually questioned the depths of his faith and the limits of his wisdom; the loving husband and father who sought to balance his family's needs with those of a growing, nationwide movement; and the reflective, world-famous leader who was fired by a vision of equality for people everywhere. Relevant and insightful, THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. offers King's seldom disclosed views on some of the world's greatest and most controversial figures: John F. Kennedy, Malcolm X, Lyndon B. Johnson, Mahatma Gandhi, and Richard Nixon. It also paints a rich and moving portrait of a people, a time, and a nation in the face of powerful change. Finally, it shows how everyday Americans from all walks of life confronted themselves, each other, and the burden of the past-and how their fears and courage helped shape our future., Using Stanford University's voluminous collection of archival material, including previously unpublished writings, interviews, recordings, and correspondence, King scholar Clayborne Carson has constructed a remarkable first-person account of Dr. King's extraordinary life., Written by Martin Luther King, Jr. himself, this astounding autobiography brings to life a remarkable man changed the world --and still inspires the desires, hopes, and dreams of us all. Martin Luther King: the child and student who rebelled against segregation. The dedicated minister who questioned the depths of his faith and the limits of his wisdom. The loving husband and father who sought to balance his family's needs with those of a growing, nationwide movement. And to most of us today, the world-famous leader who was fired by a vision of equality for people everywhere. Relevant and insightful, The Autobiography of Martin Luther King , Jr. offers King's seldom disclosed views on some of the world's greatest and most controversial figures: John F. Kennedy, Malcolm X, Lyndon B. Johnson, Mahatma Gandhi, and Richard Nixon. It paints a moving portrait of a people, a time, and a nation in the face of powerful change. And it shows how Americans from all walks of life can make a difference if they have the courage to hope for a better future.

  • A New Approach That Worked.

The author's unusual approach is a great success. Carson knows his subject. His method of allowing King to speak for himself avoids a major pitfall of biographies, where the author upstages the subject. Furthermore, letting king speak at the time of the events avoids the defensive recollections of many political memoirs. The Martin Luther King Jr. that emerges is an unusual blend of a man of thought, and a man of action. His thought is complex. His situation demands a lot of guesswork, and blind faith and visionary insight. He juggles a lot of plates in the air. He is a lot more interesting than many who find him useful allow.

  • The MLK book to read

Excellent. Format perfect. Everything you need to know about the mess of segregation that had been festering for 100 years. Everything you need to see that MLK was the man to overcome segregation and one of the finest men that ever lived. If he had not been slain we might not have the mess we have today. A tragedy.
