An excellent fine grit sandpaper
In the process of color sanding the panels of my '55 Studebaker I was trying to use a 6" 3,000 grit pad on a DA for my last step before compounding. I was not very good at using the DA and the sanding disc. In frustration I ordered this sandpaper for the 3,000 grit stage. For me, it is coming out much better using this German made paper. In fact, I had bought 50 sheets of the Norton Black Ice 2,000 before starting this project. I like this paper better than the Black Ice. I am also using the Matador 1,500 grit and love it. I am going to through this paragraph in as a suggestion to other nu-bees just starting out color sanding. It was suggested to me to use the 3M powdered dry guide during the wet sanding phase. My first thought was it would be washed off by the soapy water. Not so!! I do not have a very good 'eye' to see when the last sanding scratches have been eliminated by the subsequent finer grit sandpaper. By using the 3M dry coat there is no guessing. When the gray is gone, the finer grit has done its job. I now use the dry guide all the way up the scale. 1,000; 1,200; 1,500; 2,000; 2,500 and finally this Matador 3,000 sandpaper. No more heavier grit scratches after the compounding and polishing. The suggestion made to me was one of the best technical tips I have ever received. Charlie D.
