Synopsis"Mere Christianity" is the most popular of C. S. This book brings together Lewis's legendary radio broadcast talks in which he set out simply "to explain and defend the belief that has been common to nearly all Christians at all times". Rejecting the boundaries that divide Christianity's many denominations, "Mere Christianity" is Lewis's term for the essential Christian message--the theological core on which diverse Christian traditions can stand together.

  • Good for anyone...Christian or not. If nothing other than to just understand a Christian's perspective.

Anything C.S. Lewis is good. This particular book is more of a chronicle of his own journey to the Christian faith. In my opinion, its not so much a apologetic of the faith, though it could be considered that, but a apologetic of the logic and reasoning behind accepting the faith and how, it just make sense boiled down to its lowest denominator...mere being the word. The basics before we get into ecclesiology and other theologies.

  • Amazingly relevant all these years later.

While there are some aspects of the book that do reflect the 1940s era in which it is written, such as some politically incorrect verbiage by modern standards (he refers to a generic child as "it" instead of "he" or "she" - though in today's gender neutral society, who knows), I am amazed at how relevant this book is to today's heart and world's problems. I've always heard about the "good old days" when so many problems didn't exist - but clearly the 1940s weren't the good old days, because Lewis feels it necessary to confront all the problems that we would consider relevant today - war, language, drinking/abuse, sexual immorality, indifference towards other humans, etc. Clearly, people haven't changed, and realizing that, we can say that Lewis was correct - we have always, and always will need "mere Christianity."

  • Praise God; C.S.Lewis did.

C.S. Lewis, clearly one of the greatest minds of the twentieth century, focuses his attention on God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and how this Holy Trinity is the blueprint for mans' existence and true happiness. Clearer thoughts on the matter I have not experienced in all my reading days.

  • Get to God with sound thinking

Uses logic and common sense to approach many teachings in the bible. By discussing in depth the consequences of decisions available to every person helps you see the God alternative would have to happen the way it did thru Jesus.

  • Astonishingly pithy! Takes a long time to read properly, and is worth rereading many times. I'm choosing to never be without a copy.

The book's condition was as specified. I wouldn't give it as a gift, but it's fine as a loaner.
