Well it rubs off and it’s very hard to see on aluminum especially if you have a shiny piece that you used a face mill on. In fact it’s nearly impossible to mark once you’ve cleaned up the surface of a part. Sadly I heard great things about these welder pencils but they are not as good as a quality scribe or permanent marker. You can see in the second photo how easily I rubbed off the straight line with my finger. Other parts just handling them made my marks disappear. I was looking for an alternative to more expensive markers but after testing I will continue with permanent markers. I have not tested these on steel nor do I intend to. Check with others how steak responds to these pencils.
