SynopsisDr. De Haan writes compassionately to broken Christians and shows how their suffering can usher in a treasure of maturity and wholeness. He applies the healing principles of God's Word to encourage those who have been scarred by loss of employment, health, or by the death of a loved one.
`The author lists a number of reasons of the purpose of suffering in a Christians life but what spoke most to me is what he said about Romans 8:29. Everyone know Romans 8:28 - "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose." but they skip over verse 29. "For those God foreknew he also predestined to be CONFORMED TO THE IMAGE OF HIS SON, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
Hebrews 5:7-9 clearly states that to be conformed to the image of His Son means suffering. "During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. 8 Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered 9 and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him."
I highly recommend this book.
