Even if you are buying this flute for a beginner, it is worth it to get something that will encourage them. A cheapo will not produce as good of a tone. Period. Gemeinhardt has been a trusted name for many years and I would be willing to say you almost couldn't go wrong with it. I believe it to be far superior to brands such as Selmer, Artley, Bundy, etc. I believe Armstrong flutes to be acceptable quality as well, but Gemeinhardt even better. Just my opinions formed from experience- hope it helps!
