Slays roots...it's the real deal!
I was trying to remove an African Sumac tree stump in the desert Southwest clay soil, and having a hard time of it using tools like a normal shovel, prybar, loppers, and a reciprocal saw. This shovel arrived yesterday...and I achieved more progress in getting the stump out in the first half-hour than I had the 4-5 hours before getting this shovel! I put a good amount of pressure on the shovel in pulling the stump up, it never once made any stress related sounds, or felt anything less than solid as a rock while I pulled and pried the stump and broke roots to get it loose from the ground. It does what it says...cuts through roots quickly and easily. The stump is now out of the ground and a replacement tree is now planted....this tool made the job faster, easier, and was worth what I paid for it.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Strong Enough to Pry Rocks. Sharp Enough to Cut Roots.
This is a very well made shovel. I'm able to cut through roots with the sharp front edge. If the root is too big I use the saw blade on the side to cut through. It does a great job. Does what it is named for, "Root Slayer".
Purchased it for metal detecting digging but when we were having to dig at work for a fire hydrant replacement that was near a tree and several shrubs, this shovel turned out to be a life saver. It has no mercy on roots. Sliced through them. Now as for metal detecting, a little heavy to carry but it makes nice plug cuts and with the narrow blade more precise. Slipped through the grass like butter. The little "V" notch at the bottom I believe helps a bunch. Fantastic product
Though this didn't quite handle 2 inch roots, it has been wonderful in digging out well established shrubs like hebes which have such a mesh of a root system.
