Voltage switcher is cheap
I was unable to get the voltage switch to register 3v at all, nor 4.5v most of the time. This is unfortunate because, while not amazing, this power supply seems otherwise good quality and good value for the money. None of that matters if you can't accurately choose the voltage, the wrong voltage can damage electronics, as I nearly did to my portable CD player. Would also be nice if the plug dimensions were a little more easy to understand for people not used to measuring jacks and sockets. The reverse polarity diagram next to the switch is impossible to understand, but the switch itself functions well and is a very nice feature. Was able to use this power supply to power my 1980's Sony (negative on the inside) CD player for a few days before a better supply came by mail.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Cheap and poorly constructed
Not much else to say, the second time I plugged it in the device it was supposed to be powering flickered on for a split second, then lost power. To make sure it was NOT my device, I Cut the end of the adapter's cord off, split and stripped the ends of the two wires, then plugged it in and brushed the ends of the wires together trying to get a spark. No matter how I configured the voltage and polarity settings there was no electricity traveling down the wires. I don't expect these things to last forever, in fact every time I buy a new one its because my old one has given out, but this particular adapter had a ridiculously short life. Hooked it up to a meter before using. Output voltages were incorrect at the 110 VAC switch setting. At 220 VAC setting, voltages were correct when plugged into 110 VAC. Saves hassle of changing batteries all the time
Its pretty versatile. I had this or a very similar unit, years ago. I have a modest understanding of electronics and try and do the right thing with them. I could not really understand the polarity instructions on either the adapter or the device I was using the adapter with. I plugged it in. It did not work, at first, then I switched the polarity and it worked. I was using 12 volts at 1/2 an amp. After some reflection, the unit I was using it with ran on C batteries or an adapter. Switching the polarity is sort of like putting the batteries in the wrong way. Note, you house electric plug can be 120 v (10 times the voltage) and 15 amps (30 times the amperage). No good, dangerous product should be banned.
