My Mom had a cookbook like this in the 50's, I had the next issue which was Betty Crocker's NEW Picture Cookbook. Pretty much the same recipes, but with a different cover, so I can truthfully say that Betty Crocker taught me how to cook. Unfortunately, after 40 years of use, I used my cookbook to death. Some people think that old recipes must not be as good, but not so. The old recipes are usually the best, and this is a cookbook that a person could, and would want to use every day. Good old down-home cooking. It can teach you how to make simple things like gravy meatloaf all the way up to fancy dishes, so it could be the only cookbook a person would ever need. I compared this new reproduction cookbook with an old version of it. The pages in the new version are much whiter, so easier to read. Even though the book is a little smaller and not as thick, the type seems to be a little bigger, which also makes for easier reading. I really do believe this is the best cookbook in the U.S.Read full review

I have observed my mom using this book when I was little and now I use it in my kitchen. I love it ! It is my go to book when I want to find a recipe or check something out. It contains great, usable, practical recipes. But you can find anything you want in here. I bought this as a gift for my brother, who was also looking for the same book to add to his kitchen. So thanks to eBay, I found one very easily!

I have an original that my Mom had when I was a kid. My Mom's cook book was in her kitchen ever since I can remember. I just turned 64yrs, so that goes to show you how old it is. Unfortunately the binding has over the years has fallen apart, and the pages have been torn at the binding end. Since receiving the reprint for my recent birthday, it has reminded me of many years helping Mom in the kitchen, cooking for the family. My Mom started me helping out in the kitchen when I was about 5yrs. The cookbook's pages match the original to a tee, with the exception of the Index. The original index is a great deal better and detailed. The one in the reprint is useable, but lacks detail. The new index will cause you to have to search more, thus putting more stress on the cookbook. To counter this, my plan is to photocopy the original index and put it in the reprint(problem solved). Over all I really like the reprint, reminds me of good times with my Mom. Would recommend it to friends and family. Suggestion for improvement would to add the expanded index on future reprints. I purchased this for my 90-year-old mother who wore out her original Betty Crocker cookbook years ago. She wasn't happy with the edition that was available (1982) when she needed a replacement. She missed the recipes i in the old edition. Her eyes lit up when she realized she had her old cookbook again, but brand new.
