I had one of the Dyson DC24 upright ball vacuums in 2008 and gave it to someone else when my husband bought a larger Dyson a couple years ago - turns out the Dyson DC24 was more my style and I couldn't believe my good fortune when I found one for sale on ebay - the company stopped making this exact model a few years ago - I have been using this for a few weeks now and it works like a dream like my other DC24 did - I like the Dyson DC24 because it's light weight, is easy to store because the handle slips down to the top of the machine, it's bag-less and the clear plastic canister is easy to empty, the filters can be washed at the sink, it's easy to get around pieces of furniture and I'm very happy with it - it has a shorter cord than some other vacuums but that is fine in my opinion - I'm lucky to have outlets right where I need them and I don't have a huge home so this is perfect for me - less chances for cord to get wrapped on furniture or on me.Read full review

the vacuum works fine but the flexible hose is broken completely off. you can't pull it out but works fine when in regular position. would like to use the hose but for the price I'll live with it.

We recently bought another Dyson DC24 to use in our second home. We like the DC24 in particular because it's lightweight and that means we will vacuum more often and in more places around the house since it's easy to carry up and down stairs and to separated areas. The ball design makes it more maneuverable, as the ads say, and you'll be handling a lot less weight than a standard upright Hoover, for example. The head width is smaller than average, so it's easier to get in tight spaces between furniture, although that also means more back and forth in wide open spaces. However, despite the detachable hose, it's not a replacement for a small cannister vacuum that we need for cleaning and dusting in high and low places that would be difficult or impossible to reach with an upright. So far we haven't broken the Dyson drive belt for the rotating brush and I can't say whether or not it lasts longer than the one in our Hoover that seems to need replacement fairly often. Four stars only because it can't do every high and low cleaning job.Read full review
This tiny vacuum is powerful enough to keep my house hair and dust free despite me three dogs and parrot. I love that it's so lightweight and compact. The canister is quite small since the vac overall is so small but this wasn't a problem, it's not that big of a difference in the amount of time it takes for it to fill up. The only downside is that the hose and the cord are too short for my taste. But with the vac being so light I would just lift it up with one hand and use the hose with the brush attachment to dust in higher places. I wish it were longer but it's understandable since the whole vac is so small, there wouldn't be room for it anyway.
Actually, I wanted to rate it between Excellent and Good, but no block for that rating. It's almost excellent and it's much beter than good. The reason it's not an Excellent rating is because there is no built-in storage for the hose attachment. Other than that, it is excellent. We have a built-in whole-house vacuum system, but since we've had the Dyson, we have used it more than the built-in. The Dyson is easy to use on most carpets and doesn't take up much storage room. We haven't used it yet on furniture or steps. And, I like its odd appearance.
