Athearn Replacement Gears for Proto 2000 EMD GP models
Even though these are Athearn parts they are the exact replacement gear you need for fix your blue or brown box Proto 2000 EMD GP series model. The Proto 2000 split gear issue is well known by most HO scale model railroaders. Fixing the issue with these Athearn gears is easy. The Athearn axle opening is a little too small and I run a 3/32" drill through the gear which reams out the little bit of material needed to allow the Proto 2000 half axle, bearing and wheel to press fit onto the Athearn gear. The gear must be centered between the two bronze bearings or steel plate which holds the bearing on the truck gear box will slip down on the axle. An NMRA standards gauge for wheel width is a must.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

"No More Gears" Solves Your Problem
If you're engines made you "cry" as they traveled down a section of track that had no rail joiners and clunked repeatedly, these axle gears are the answer. Just like Johnson and Johnson Baby Shampoo which proclaimed, "No More Tears!", these replacement axle gears will solve the problem. Easy to install, I replaced the gears on a number of Proto 2000 FA2s, BL2s and GP18s without much difficulty. A couple of the axles were too tight and the axle gears needed a minimal amount of reaming with a Dremel tool; most just slipped on with little effort. Perfect replacement for Athearn and Proto
These are an exact replacement for the original Athearn gears and also work as an inexpensive replacement for Proto 2000 gears that are notorious for cracking and letting the axles "freewheel". you have to have these to run your Athearn diesel engines

Gear replacement
Re[placement gears for the Proto 2000 engines. Simple to use. Remove the PK2 gear cover on bottom of truck. Remove the gear and wheels. Replace the gear and then place the wheels and gear back into the truck. Replace the cover and away you go.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
