As an owner of the (rare) original release of Ridge Racer (Oversized Clear Case) Which reads, "Welcome to the New Sony 32 Bit Playstation.", it fell well short of it's later released sequel Rage Racer. Namco went way beyond smashing the mold on the classic ridge racer. Don't buy this game expecting it to be like Midnight Club, or other new racing games we have today. The reason I rate this an excellent game is simply due to the innovation of it's time. Kids today will never appreciate the rise of gaming into what it is today. We played so many crappy games over and over because that's all we had! But by buying those games, we gave feedback, insprired, and revolutionized the gaming industry entirely. We wanted more, and more, hey my kids are almost grown, gimme some more!!! Now are kids are playing, expect even more into tomorrow. So where does Rage Racer fit into all this in my view? Well Atari had Pole Position, but do you remember Enduro? It was better! How about Ridge Racer? Rage Racer was better! What about Gran Taurismo? Forget it, Rage Racer was still better! (Well upto 3, but that's open for debate.) Buy any of these other games and you'll see what I mean. Rage Racer is one of the few games I'll still sit and complete in 1 sitting, aside from Diablo, and Duke Nukem: Time to Kill. To master Rage Racer you have to endure a bit of redundancy. First off, and foremost upgrading your car before going to the next class. That or prepare to drop back a class and mill out some more cash. I prefer Overpass City as apposed to Mythical Coast to do this. It is a bit longer of a track, but in the late game the cash margin is a huge difference. Infact by a whopping $1,000 in the 2nd class. Once you get a grade 2 car and unlock Class 2, keep doing Overpass City! Do this and Mythical coast, but don't attempt Lakeside Gate without going to Grade 3 on the Gnade or purchasing the Grade 3 (Grey Mini)Age Abeille. You'll find this car does better on the tight turns than the Gnade. Always upgrade this car and use specifically for Lakeside Gate! Well I don't want to spoil the entire game but you get the idea. One final note is it's imperative you have bought and upgraded all the cars before class 6 and don't attempt The Extreme Oval without an Assoluto. Aside from that, just remember to save and reload the entire game if you lose a race. Otherwise you won't be awarded a trophy. For more spoilers and tricks there's a nice FAQ posted on Gamespot. I bought this game, my 3rd copy, because the others have died. They we're resurfaced multiple times and just gave up on me. Also I'm on my 6th PS1. I found the older Grey models hold up much longer than the newer compact PS One's. Then again, I don't think it's the playstations fault at all, maybe it's just me. =P Just beware playing extended lengths of time. Human willpower will outmatch technology, electronics, and computers every single T1M3!!!Read full review
This is by far my all time favorite racing game! In the days of the PS1, I lived inside this game. This game is arcade racing at it's finest. I have never enjoyed a racing game like this before nor after Race Racer.

This game Rage Race to me brings back great memories of racing the clock! I love this one. Grand Turismo has nothing on Rage Racer.

I used to love playing this game back in the day. It was my brother's game, so when he moved out, it moved with him and over the years I've forgotten the name of it and I finally found it again after researching the internet looking for it and wanted to get it again. I bought it again because I missed playing it and, it was a great game for its time. Since then, newer games with better graphics and such have come out, but to me, it's still a classic.
My family and I love the game alot, my husband and I play it all the time. Thank you.

This is not a bad racing game. You'll have to race each track a few times to achieve the next up grade, to go on to the next level. There are some dark spots that once you race it a couple of times you you can master it.This is a game that I played once before and could never find in the stores, and the video stores never heard of it.
