A well researched book, but uses poor quality printing methods and poor photos.
A well researched book, but it needs a better quality printing method and more/better illustrations. The current illustrations are little more than black and white line drawings on poor (almost newspaper) paper stock. They also are very difficult to read because the old preproduction examples used. I only recommend it because there is no other options than pass or fail.

A very good book that I would recommend to anyone interested in S&W's.
I purchased this book because I wanted additional information on Smith & Wesson hand guns. This product has proven to be very informative and was well worth the price. I have used it several time since purchasing it, to identify characteristics of several guns I was considering and it showed me what to look for in an original VS reproduction product. The book is a very good "go to" ready reference, and it is well organized. There is no doubt that I would recommend it to anyone looking for a reasonably priced book to ad to their collection. I have a number of other books written about S&W hand guns and this ranks as one of the best.

A lot of information for the money
This is a lot of information for the money. However, I would not buy it again (spend more for a better book) the pictures, although numerous, are of a poor quality and almost useless for detail comparison.

Good story, need to check your serial number facts.
What I was looking for was not just the story of Smith and Wesson, but an accurate listing of serial numbers of the various models. The story of S&W is good. The accuracy of the list of serial numbers is not so much. The pistol I was researching this book lists as three series, of which mine would fall into series one. I have subsequently found out that there are five series of this model. Mine drops into the second series as the first series ended at 30! Good story, need to check your research facts.
