Oral nitenpyram only kills adult fleas for <24 hours, but it has it's uses. Although there is good killing of adult fleas, dropped eggs will continue to hatch and young fleas will reinfect your animal. If you gave all 6 doses every other day (13 days total), you might be able to kill all the local fleas, provided all eggs hatch in that time. I generally use it to provide immediate relief to my dog, as a supplement to longer-lasting treatment such as topical drops (e.g., Advantage II...). It is useful, but nitenpyram alone will probably not solve your flea problem completely unless the animal is moved completely away from their typical living quarters to a place where no flea eggs exist (good luck with that). In warmer spaces where the animal is active, eggs will typically hatch pretty quickly and nitenpyram is useful for killing newly hatched fleas that hop onto your animal. However, flea eggs are slower to hatch in cooler temps and can survive in floor cracks etc of rarely used rooms for many months, only to hatch when the animal returns (vibrations and carbon dioxide from breathing are thought to be stimuli that cause hatching; doesn't make sense to hatch if no host is available. Like any medications, pay attention to possible side effects arising in your animal--it's flea poison they are eating after all.Read full review
