Ronnie James Dio purists hate Joe Lynn Turner so if you hate post Dio Rainbow this album is not for you. Although this album is not quite as powerful as the top 30 hit album "Straight Between the Eyes," "Bent Out of Shape" contains plenty of great songs including the classic "Just Can't Let You Go" and the should have been top 40 hit "Street of Dreams." This is the most diverse sounding album Rainbow released with Turner and includes no less than two cool instrumentals. "Snowman" kind of sounds like "Pink Floyd." The other instrumental sounds like classic, rocking "Rainbow" at their best. Joe Lynn Turner really finds his voice on this album so it's clear that if "Rainbow" had continued, the next album had the potential to be even better. Other standout tracks include the album opener, "Stranded" and "Desperate Heart" which features a cool riff and excellent vocals. So all you Joe Lynn Turner haters listen up. Rainbow had more hit albums in the US with Turner then with Dio. Rainbow's sole top 40 hit single was "Stone Cold" off of the "Straight Between the Eyes" album featuring Joe Lynn Turner on vocals. Yngwie Malmsteen didn't have a hit album in the US until Turner joined his group for the "Odyssey" album. Turner is the "real thing," an amazing vocalist.Read full review

Juicy, quality rock music. Drive in conjunction with the lyrical digressions. Pleasant melodies. Strong arrangements. Overall this is a beautiful album - Greatest Ballads here! And rejoice that you have the opportunity to taste it GLORY!! Song from the album "Down To Earth", "Difficult To Cure", "Straight Between The Eyes" and "Bent Out Of Shape" would have been a stunningly strong compilation.
I grew up with Rainbow in the 80's and LOVE the CD, Thanks

This is certainly Rainbow's most "commercial" and more mainstream album. Listening to it now in retrospect, it is the beginning of what would later be known as "Blackmore's Night". The format and the tempo feels like Ritchie Blackmore and it's a great album for listening to with a mixed crowd. It causes people to react by asking about the band.
