Even though I don't really care for "concert footage", I still liked this one okay. I was not initially impressed with the stage, as it appeared (in the beginning) as a large open area where Metallica was playing "in the round". LEDs imbedded in the stage gave a venue for some "B-roll" footage, but left me initially unimpressed with the stage's ability to support any pyrotechnics, character, or special effects for the concert ...I was wrong! All that stuff was hidden beneath the stage, and DID come out later in the show. I really don't understand why they hired some actor (Dane DeHaan) to play a roadie, or why they couldn't have developed a better storyline for his incorporation with the movie. While Metallica played, the scene would cut to this guy running a roadie's errand ...make that an errand that started very unimaginatively plain, and quickly becoming screenwriter-influenced (meaning the realism in the story became secondary to the side-story the screenwriter was pushing) -and then became even more absurd, where the character should have died, but instead magically awoke after being transported to an inner-city rooftop parking lot. The actor was okay, he had only one word of dialog, (so he said it twice). This really left me wondering why the distributor's write up (on the back of the package) made it seem like he was such a ground-breaking, all-important part of the movie's experience. For me, he wasn't. All in all, I enjoyed watching Metallica perform on stage, and like most concert footage it was the best seat in the house, and I probably enjoyed it more than any other concert-footage I've seen in a while. But If I had my way, the concert footage would be a "special feature" on a disc full of the band's music videos, because when I hear popular songs (from any band), I prefer to see the music video for the song over concert footage.Read full review
Metallica is America’s best music group so they put on a fantastic oversized concert with all the trimmings. Through the never is a great concert film. If you like Metallica, it’s a must see.

I had got a movie in Blu Ray to give to my adult son and he ended up asking me if I’d watch it too. So I’m glad that I had this then along with receiving it soon after. I give it a 5 out of 5.
