Great performing lens - recommended
For a 500mm lens this is a short, compact design. Waited for months to finally get one as they are in high demand. I have a 500mm f4, which is much larger and heavier. The wider aperture of the f4 provides better subject isolation. The smaller lens (f5.6) is easier to carry and is a great, cheaper alternative to the f4.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

An impressive long-lens offering from Nikon,..... Finally
I started out as a sports action photographer and then spent 40+ years as a commercial advertising photographer. Now my wife and I love photographing birds. I have a AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4E FL ED VR and it is just too heavy for her to manipulate, but she needed the extra reach. The 80-400 nikon was simply disappointing, the 200-500 skyrocketed to Just OK. I bought her this lens and on a trip to Florida subjected it to some " hard" action before i even decided to keep it. See photos attached. Simply put she is thrilled. It is light, perfect for bird flight shots and is critically sharp. Finally, Nikon has produced a winner without a "...But" attached to the performance description. Finally.....
