Great addition for a canister filter, cleans the tank nicely, helps in the loss of fry and baby shrimps, very easy to set up to multiple pipes and easy to clean, also builds up beneficial bacteria. Also for those who are doing a new tank setup and want to make the cycle process quicker can pull this filter from an older tank and squeeze a couple time in the new tank water to add beneficial bacteria to the water column. A great pre-pre filter.

Get one of these if you are using a cannister filter!
I am using it with my Eheim 2034 and really like this for my 20 gallon tank. I had to do a little swapping to get it to work with the skinny tubing with the Eheim but putting the slotted end on the rigid piece of tubing and sliding that into the internal plastic pieces works well. The prefilter is exactly the size I needed for this small tank and I would not run a tank with a cannister filter without one. I had a 120 gallon tank and used a block of coarse filter foam that was 6x6x18 as a prefilter - it REALLY reduced the amount of filter maintenance I needed to do. I went from weekly filter changes to 1x per month!

Must have item for canister filters.
Used these for years with Fluval canister filters, fit and quality is great. rarely need to actually break down the whole filter in clean it. In my opinion Fluval should sell their filters with a sponge like this to prevent clogs or poor flow within weeks of use.
