Does exactly what I wanted it to do
I purchased the Speaker Soak based on a recommendation from a friend. I play every Sunday in a worship band at church. I use an 18 watt tube amp and needed to have the volume set to about 1.5 or the amp would over power the room and all the other musicians. At 1.5 I couldn't get the same great tone that the amp delivered if the volume was set to 3 - 5 range. With the Speaker Soak I was able to crank up the amp to get the great tone, then crank down the Audio Level on the Speaker Soak to a respectable level that didn't over power the room or other musicians.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Tube soaked goodness (after a bit of wiring on my Peavey Delta Blues)
** After about 6 months the volume/level pot became scratchy and unusable in a live music/gig situation. If you are only practicing with it and not having to turn it up/down, it may be ok for you. I ultimately went with a Behrenger (sp?) and am more than happy with it. If you just want to play at bedroom levels and set it once and forget it, this piece may work for you. I’ve read good and bad reviews on the Speaker Soak. Most of the bad seemed to be that the user was using an instrument cable instead of a speaker cable (or that they were using it on a Marshall stack etc). The piece shipped faster than expected (being a one man shop myself, I understand lead times). On my way home I picked up a speaker cable from the local guitar shop. I found when I went to try it out that unfortunately it is not “plug and play” for the peavey Delta Blues 210. You have to do a bit of wiring work to the speaker cable (not the amps cable) by splicing in some male/female connectors. Make sure you have .157 male connectors to fit the OEM female speaker connectors. Might be a product idea for the manufacturer as an add on piece. After about an hour of playing dialing it in between 12 and ultimately settling in around 6/7, it does get “warm” but nowhere near warm enough to not be able to touch it.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Carl's custom guitars speaker soak. Carl was great to deal with, he answered my questions about this product quickly. Extremely well made attenuator which doesn't colour your tone at all !!! Very versatile and well made and delivered very quickly. This speaker soak means I can play my valve amps at a lower volume so it doesn't disturb my neighbours but I still keep that lovely valve tone from my amp. It works, but it's bright and harsh.
Like most looking at this product I was wanting to crank my tube amp to gig levels yet the volumes of house use. It works and is very well constructed. I did have an addition of harsh, bright, brittle tones. I hated my amps tone while using this product. Does exactly what it's supposed to :)
For starters, Carl dispatched my order within about 15 minutes of me placing it. It took longer to travel the 70 miles from Heathrow to my house than it did the 3,300 miles from MA to Heathrow :) Upon arrival it was packaged well and the item itself had suffered no damage on its epic journey. It's a simple, well-made product (I don't like fancy, twiddly things!) that does exactly what it's supposed to. I can crank my Orange Dual Terror up now without my wife or the dog complaining :) Previously I had to turn it waaaay down on its two-valve, half-power setting with the volume set to almost off. Not any longer though. It sounds ace now. Quiet and ace. Just what I wanted! Tone is great too :)

Make sure it’s the right ohms
