Works more like OTB (out the back)
The blade is withdrawn by pushing the side button(slide) all the way down the side of the handle. It locks in the rear. Thus, if you hold the handle in the normal fashion ones thumb is NOT on the release side button (slide). One needs to turn the knife around to hold it and engage the blade opening slide. This knife becomes an Out The Back knife! Do not do this to yourself, save up a little more money and get an OTF knife that works OUT the Front!
