This is one of the first, if not THE first, title brought to America by Working Designs, a company renowned for porting games over from Japan. It plays a lot like Raiden Fighters, an old top-down arcade shooter some might be familiar with. It's made by Taito, and any fans of the Darius series won't be disappointed with this one. If you can find this game for a good price, pick it up. It doesn't look like Sony has any plans to re-release it on Playstation Network anytime soon. Frustrating enough is the game's "Training Mode". Which basically limits you to 4 stages if you change anything such as difficulty or number of lives. I understand Working Designs wanted to prevent the "throwaway shooter", where players just finish the game on Easy and complain it was too short and simple, moving on to other games. However, this should be our choice. Some of us aren't great shooter gurus, and few Americans can really face the same difficulty settings as in Japan. I'll admit, I've come close to finishing, but all the same - the original developer, Taito, allowed to tweak the difficulty of each stage. It defeats the purpose of that system to limit us to stage 4 for tweaking stage 8. Other than that, it's a solid shooter and one of the early PSX releases that's still worth picking up.Read full review
If you have crappy reflexes, this old scrolling shooter ain't for you. It's a short game altogether, but real fun to play alongside a buddy. Just make sure he doesn't suck and drain all your credits LOL.

For a 5th of the cost (as of 2022) buy the better running and sounding physical PS2 version included in the Taito Legends 2 collection. You also get G-Darius in the collection which is another expensive PS1 shooter. Strangely these two games are not listed on the back of the Taito Legends 2 box...so the fact they are on the PS2 is hidden knowledge. Do with it as you will. Enjoy.
