I am a history fan. Purchased this book and realized it's b a basically a compilation of ancient Sumerian cuneiform texts from 5000 years ago presented as some mystical or magical writings. Some say H.P. Lovecraft wrote it but the ancient Sumerian cuneiforms were not translated until around or after Lovecraft's death. Not even sure how Lovecraft could deny the books existence when it was first published 40 years after his death...So maybe it was written 1200 years ago by the mad Arab (predating the only account of cuneiform translation?) Or written by Peter Lavender in the 1970's after Zecharia Zitchin translations. It's hardly a book magical book of power without understanding the meanings behind the names of the gods who basically wrote the earliest examples of human understanding of the earth, solar system and the universe 6000 years ago who some how actually understood more about our existence than we truly do know today.Read full review

It must be remember that this book is from Sumer historical past. The use of it could release powers that can not be controlled. Not for the common man, subjected to be mis-used and should be read with care. Books on magical powers can be hurtful to the mind. Too much knowledge could made you mad like the writer of the book. The book has a interesting history. The big question is if Lovecraft connected with it?
This is a fun book, Great for any fan of H.P. Lovecraft. However it's kind of a boring read, There are some good parts, where the writer talks about walking in on Strange rituals in the darkness, but these are far apart. Most of this book consists of gibberish and mysterious drawings, It's kind of interesting, and tries hard to look like what it says it is, an ancient spell book. I thought that the lack of lovecraft references in the actual body of the text was a little sad. At least they have a Cuthulu spell, but that's where the lovecraft stops, but oh well. It's a good addition to any Lovecraft collection, or i guess if you're into all of that Crowley stuff. As for me, I think it's a far cry from the dreaded necronomicon that Lovecraft envisioned, but it'll do. ^_^Read full review
If you want to understand the Necronomicon, you should read this book first. It doesn't matter if you believe the Necronomicon is real magic, or just interested in it for curiosity sake. The fear factor over this book is ridiculous. No spook is going to get you. Just read the book!
