I really wanted the older edition because I understood it states portions for the era it came from - which is what portions should be. However, the font on this edition is very small and the pages are so thin they stick together easily. I have great vision and it is still small. I love the spiral bound though - that'll help when referencing the recipe - if I can read it. Ha ha. I'm not sure if the newer editions have these problems. I'd check the photos of the pages and try to check out a copy in person before buying. Otherwise, I'm glad to have my Joy of Cooking cookbook and hope to make the time to prepare something in it once my gallblader is gone!
I love this book. It looks older than I was expecting but that just adds to it's value. It is full of great information and would be an excellent book to give someone as a wedding gift or foe someone starting over. Full of info on what you need in the kitchen to start off with.
