I used to play this game every day as a child. :) so when we went and bought a PS3, it was common sense to search for my old childhood favorite PS3 game. I was bouncing in anticipation for the set of three to arrive at my door. When it was delivered, I immediately tore the package open and shoved one in and started it up. It was nostalgic. I loved every moment of it. Definitely worth the money to buy it.

Spyro the Dragon is one of the few games you will always remember from PS1. This game brings you into a rich, colorful, fantasy dragon world. While the gameplay is vary simple and start forward, There are a few challenges even the skilled gamer would find difficult. When you start off, you must meet a set goal to open new realms and some sub realms. Each realm of the dragon world features a hand full of sub realms in witch you must collect gems and free dragons. Once you have the right amount of gems or freed dragons, you can advance trough the game. Overall, no matter how old you are, this game is alot of fun and enjoyable. I give this game a 8 OUT OF 10
The first of the Spyro trilogy and was successful by game reviews when the game first hit the stores in 1998. No one knew what to expect from the new game, but it actually made a name for it self. I completed this game about 3 times and it was excellent, not as amazing as the two following games for Spyro in the Playstation 1 era, but it's still just as enjoyable as the other 2 are. It was a simple game with good story line, but if you played the other two Spyro games already, you would find many things lacking in the first Spyro game, but remember it was the first of the series and the problems with the first game and or lacking of depth for mini games were greatly improved in the second one and praised in the third one. I would still purchase this game, it's great experience to see how much they improved over the years if you played the other Spyro games but if you didn't and your thinking of buying a Spyro game, It's amazing experience and not many games can bring the joy of playing video games like SpyroRead full review
I'm a huge fan of the Spyro series but I will not be biased in my review of this game. This game is amazing. It was a very early made PS1 game and brilliantly flaunted the PS1's 3D graphics capabilities. They were amazing in such a time. The game's story line is OK, though not amazing. The game's main focus is on the fun factor and game play. The game play is awesome. I remember first playing it and having so much fun ramming the sheep or burning them. The controls are so easy to use and learn. The Graphics are great (in comparison to others in it's time). The game is 3D. The camera view is also great, never causing a problem usually. You can easily control the camera with the L and R buttons to see around, if you're having any problems. The worlds are all brilliantly colored and well defined. The voice acting is good too. Spyro's voice was done by Carlos Alazraqui, who also did the Taco Bell Chihuahua's voice. The music is awesome. It was all composed brilliantly by Stewart Copeland (Drummer of the music band "The Police"). Annoyances: I didn't really have any problems with the game... it could be challenging at times but that should be expected in all games. This game is the first in the series. In my opinion, the first 3 games in the series are of excellent quality because they were made by Insomniac Games. They are minds who invented and developed the Spyro concept. Insomniac is a game development company who takes pride and much time in creating quality games. If you liked this game, do try some of Insomniac's other games, such as Ratchet and Clank.Read full review
I love this game and am so happy I found a good copy! This is a fun, challenging, control manipulation and puzzle game. The soundtrack is great, the graphics are good (it's a play station original) for the time and the different worlds are increasingly challenging. I really do love this game. I am much more impressed with the simpler games for Nintendo and Playstation earlier platforms. I haven't found many games that I find simply fun. Spyro the Dragon certainly fits the bill!

When Spyro the Dragon first came out for the Playstation, I never read any reviews for it. The cover featured an adorable purple dragon with an attitude. What more could anyone ask for! Playing the game was even more satisfying. Playing the game could keep one up all night...literally. It was incredibly addictive. To recap, the game is a 3D platformer in which you play Spyro, a little purple dragon. He can breathe fire, charge and glide He is accompanied by his dragonfly pal Sparx, who serves as a health bar. Sparx is yellow when he's at full charge. He turns blue when Spyro gets hit once, green when hit again, then disappears when hit three times. In order to strenthen Sparx again, you feed him butterflys, which can be found by charging/flaming various animals depending on the stage you're on. Most notably, sheep. The game has Spyro battling Gnasty Gnorc and his goons in order to free his fellow dragons, who have been improsoned by Gnasty in stone. There are a few worlds, each with their own portal, to find dragons to free. The game is accompied by a great musical score with a unique and rather charming sound. Each world and portal is large enough to explore once and most likely miss something. Completing the game is no easy feat, and is by no means done quickly. Puzzles and bosses are not impassable, but just tough enough to keep you on your toes. All in all, Spyro the Dragon is a must for anyone who has a Playstation. With addicting gameplay, loveable characters and dragons, there's really nothing to skip here. Not to mention classic comedy is a nice reminder of how good cartoons used to be. Even now I find myself going back and playing it over again. For someone like me, Spyro has a wonderful replay value. If you're looking for an overall good game for the PLaystation, Spyro the Dragon should definitely be on the top ten.Read full review
Our family plays a lot of Rated E games and we love Spyro the best of all. We started playing the games and based which ones we bought on reviews. The original Spyro was purchased next to last and found it was a little easier than the more recent ones. We have a five year old who plays as well and he has mastered all the moves, jumps and figuring the mysteries out on the other Spyro games so this was cake for him. However, we are unable to save this game on our PS2. Everything I have read says you have to have a PS1 to be able to save the game.
Absolutely love this game, even now as an adult there’s points that are challenging and keep you thinking. Yet at the same time basic gameplay is simple enough that the kiddo can play it. It’s great to see her stimulated for hours at a time exploring all the different worlds I was playing as a child. Wonderful game and I have all three from the original trilogy. I highly recommend all of them

I speedrun this game because I used to love it as a kid. Now I'm really good at the game and I must say, I just can't get enough of this game. I pretty much do a full run of the game everyday because it's just that GOOD! For the average player, this game is just amazing. It's perfect for casual players because you can save at any dragon you release throughout the game (beware, you can't save on ps2 memory cards!). If you have a child that likes video games, GET THIS ONE! It is just too much of a classic to pass up on and if your child enjoys things like skylander, he/she will love to hop into this original masterpiece and start the long(or not so long) journey to defeat Gnorc. All in all, I loved this game as a kid and it's just as enjoyable now that I'm much better at it. And to all first timers that try this game, have fun looking for all the hidden treasure :)Read full review
