If you've got Tektro Novela mechanical disc brakes on your bike, then these replacement pads are exactly what you need. I bought 4 pair, two for me and two for my buddy, who has the same kind of bike. These are the genuine article, they come in the original packaging, but two of the four packages had been slit open, so these pads might well have been touched by human hands, something the manufacturer tells you explicitly not to do. Or not, there is no way to know. But the thing about brake pads is that they are pretty hard to mess up even if you try. If you bed them in properly, they will be good to go (or stop, actually) for a long time. If you live where you've got some long, really steep hills, take your bike to the top and pedal it down as hard as you can go to get up a good head of steam. Then do a max force stop with one wheel at a time (front or back) only. Then do it again. And again. And again. Etc., etc., etc., more. Keep it up until you can get the wheel to lock up solid or the pads and your hands and forearms are both smokin', glow-in-the-dark hot, whichever happens first. (Those Tektro mechancials require a lot of grip force.) If you bed them in this way, you should be able to lock up either wheel on any surface any time. Not that you want to stop this way, but having this kind of stopping force at hand means the brakes are working 100%. If you do this bedding in process, a little slit or two in the bubble pack can't possibly matter. But unopened means unopened, dudes.Read full review
