This is a Three pole motor with a reliable speed at voltage. Typical start voltage is about 4 volts with a small load and runs reliably at 5 volts or more. I have used two in Athearn rotary snow plows to turn the blades. Because the motor has a low RPM rating and is only three pole I would not use them to re-power locomotives but they are excellent for animation with a very low current draw.

This is a great motor for the price. it's strong and presumably quite durable. My only issue is that it runs just a tad slower than I'd likie. Still, it's worth purchasing since the prototype locos were supposed to run slower than my boy race tendencies. This will work best with a gearbox rather than trying to fasten a worm gear directly to the shaft.
