This book, the root of the popular movies of the 1970s, is an extremely thoughtful book, with well thought out plot and clever turn abouts in how to look at animals, pets and zoo creatures. The book features a pair of twist ends DIFFERENT than the original movie with Charlton Heston on the beach. Originally in French, the translation works for the most part, but ocassionally, still feels like there may be a French expression or two that mystifies. The book is unusally thin, and early yellowing editions have been suplimented by a re-issue that features the Tim Burton movie poster cover. Presumably, that edition is faithful to Pierre Boulle's original, and is not the new screenplay.
