This is the primary coil, it produces the spark and mounts with 2 screws, under the flywheel, on the stator plate. The primary coil has 2 wires, one is grounded on the screw that holds it to the stator plate, the other bare wire is soldered to the condensor, along with a jumper wire that goes to the points, and a wire from the lighting coil mounted above it.
